Bonnie Chakraborty has been actively working in the Indian and International Music Industry for the last 27 years as a singer and composer. He is a known name in the Bollywood industry with many hits to his name. But before he came to Bollywood, he was one of the founder member's of one of the pioneering rock bands in Kolkata, way back in the early 90's, KROSSWINDZ. Their band spearheaded the nation's rock movement with regular performances at the country's premiere rock festivals, Independence Rock, Mumbai and other big festivals at the Indian Institute for Management and Sciences. During this time Kolkata was waking up to Bangla Rock and Pop revolution, their band KROSSWINDZ, revolutionized the music scene forever with their album, 'Poth Geche Benke', later their involvement with the cult band of the legendary Gautam Chatterjee, Moheenner Ghoragulee, saw them perform and produce 4 super hit albums in Kolkata. Since than Bonnie has numerous cult classics to his name in the Kolkata music scene.
Moving on he ventured into playback and subsequently moved to Chennai, where he started working with the Maestro Mr.A.R.RAHMAN as a singer, this association lasted for 6 years and he has sung for the following films, MANGAL PANDEY -THE RISING, GURU, NETAJI SUBHAS CHANDRA BOSE-THE FORGOTTEN HERO, JODHA AKBAR & DELLI-6. Another album titled, 'KASHTI – PARCHAIYYAN', was released by Zee music in the year 2002, KASHTI was a duo spearheaded by ace composer and guitar player, NEIL MUKHERJEE and Bonnie.
Recently in the last 10 years in Mumbai, he has sung for, ROAR,BOBBY JASOOS, BULLET RAJA, DEV.D(Emotional Atyachar Rock Version), UDAAN(Motumaster), NO ONE KILLED JESSICA(Aali re Saali re), 99(Soch Mat Dobara & Theme), AALAAP, besides lending his voice for, KAHAANI,BARFI, BULLET RAJA & TALAASH.
He has sung for AAMIR KHAN'S much acclaimed show, SATYAMEV JAYATE 1 & 3. His songs, NIKAL PADO RE & MAATI, are hugely popular and an AAMIR KHAN favorite.
Bonnie has also sung for the critically acclaimed Bengali movie, SUKNO LANKA, besides also singing for BUNO HAANSH, APARAJITO TUMI, DUI PRITHIBI, OBOSHESHE, ITI MRINALINI, BAPI BARI JAA, C/O SIR & many more.
His song ZINDEGI from BUNO HAANSH was topping all the radio charts in Kolkata for 7 weeks. His debut as a Music Director was with KAUSHIK GANGULY's, RONG MELANTI which did 100 days at the box office.
He is one of the few music producers who was hand picked by the BOB DYLAN FOUNDATION, to speak about Bauls & their relationship with the contemporary world, in 2010 in Kolkata. He has researched,archived and produced Baul & Fakiri music since 2000 with his platform, Bonnie & Oikyotaan.
His contemporary folk platform Bonnie & Oikyotaan has been a part of TED INK TALKS, held at Pune in 2012.
He has umpteen Bollywood hits to his credit, but back home, Bonnie Chakraborty is still the Prithibi boy, who once spearheaded the nation's rock movement with Krosswindz.Read More
